دل نا اُمید تو نہیں، ناکام ہی تو ہے۔
لمبی ہے غم کی شام، مگر شام ہی تو ہے۔
Dil na-umeed to nahi, naakaam hi to hai,
Lambi hai gham ki shaam, magar shaam hi to hai
اور کیا دیکھنے کو باقی ہے،
آپ سے دل لگا کے دیکھ لیا۔
Aur kya dekhne ko baqi hai,
aap se dil laga ke dekh liya.
دونوں جہاں تیری محبت میں ہار کے،
وہ جا رہا ہے کوئی شبِ غم گزار کے۔
Dono jahan teri mohabbat mein haar ke,
woh ja raha hai Koi shab-e-gham guzaar ke.
تمہاری یاد کے جب زخم بھرنے لگتے ہیں،
کسی بہانے تمہیں یاد کرنے لگتے ہیں۔
Tumhari yaad ke jab zakham bharne lagte hain,
kisi bahaane Tumhein yaad karne lagte hain.
وہ بات سارے فسانے میں، جس کا ذکر نہ تھا
وہ بات ان کو بہت ناگوار گزری ہے
Woh baat saare fasane mein, jis ka zikr na tha
Woh baat unko bohat nagawar guzri hai
نہیں نگاہ میں منزل تو جستجو ہی سہی
نہیں وصال میسر تو آرزو ہی سہی
Nahi nigaah mein manzil to justuju hi sahi
Nahi visaal maysar to aarzoo hi sahi
گلوں میں رنگ بھرے، بادِ نوبہار چلے
چلے بھی آؤ کہ گلشن کا کاروبار چلے
Gulon mein rang bhare, baad-e-nau-bahaar chale
Chale bhi aao ke gulshan ka kaarobaar chale
کب تھہرے گا درد، اے دل؟ کب رات بسر ہوگی؟
سنتے تھے وہ آئیں گے، سنتے تھے سحر ہوگی۔
Kab thehrega dard, ae dil? Kab raat basar hogi?
Sunte the wo aayenge, sunte the sahar hogi.
ایک طرزِ تغافل ہے، سو وہ اُن کو مبارک
ایک عرضِ تمنّا ہے، سو ہم کرتے رہیں گے۔

Ik arz-e-tamanna hai, so hum karte rahenge.
آئے تو یوں کہ جیسے ہمیشہ تھے مہربان
بھولے تو یوں کہ گویا کبھی آشنا نہ تھے
Aaye to yun ki jaise hamesha thay mehrban
Bhule to yun ki goya kabhi ashna na the
زندگی کیا کسی مفلس کی قبا ہے جس میں
ہر گھڑی درد کے پیوند لگے جاتے ہیں۔
Zindagi kya kisi muflis ki qaba hai jis mein
har ghadi dard ke paiband lage jaate hain.
وہ آ رہے ہیں، وہ آتے ہیں، آ رہے ہوں گے۔
شبِ فراق یہ کہ کر گزار دی ہم نے۔
Vo aa rahe hain, vo aate hain, aa rahe honge.
Shab-e-firaq ye keh kar guzar di hum ne.
نہ جانے کس لئے امیدوار بیٹھا ہوں
ایک ایسی راہ پہ جو تیری راہگذار بھی نہیں
Na jaane kis liye umeedwar baitha hoon
Ek aisi raah pe jo teri raahguzar bhi nahi
آپ کی یاد آتی رہی رات بھر
چاندنی دل دکھاتی رہی رات بھر
Aap ki yaad aati rahi raat bhar
Chandni dil dukhati rahi raat bhar

جو کوئے یار سے نکلے تو سوۓ در چلے
